This model uses existing lines on the site. The elevation is in reference to these lines on the site: example road is high, built above the land and ponds are low, carved from the land.

I am concentrating on the triangular piece of land discovered through the "overlay" of the systems on the site. I am taking this new topography, taking sections and adjusting them specifically to meet the forces at that moment on the site. These sections will transform the topography to a very specific performative one. The space below will start to connect other areas of the site.

San Gorgonio Pass

This wind farm, North of Palm Springs, on the East facing side of the San Gorgonio Pass is one of the windiest places in Southern California. Due to the San Andreas Fault, it is one of the deepest mountain passes in the 48 contiguous states creating a wind tunnel in this location, as well as, the stable flows of warm desert air mixing with cooler coastal air. Winds are the strongest in summer, when electricity demands are at the highest.

There are about 4000 wind turbines in this area. It is predicted by 2017 California will receive 20% of its energy from renewable sources.

A band of commercial buildings flock to a creek paralleled by the railroad which have interrupted the grid.

North Palm Springs

The 10 fwy and Hwy 111 create edges for the triangular piece of land that houses wind turbines. The two transportation arteries have interrupted the grid creating a new grain. The slope on this site houses a wash which drains all the way to the Salton Sea. The water running through the site is diverted into water basins.

Santa Monica Pier acts as an extension of the 10 fwy (visually), protruding into the Pacific. The pier acts as a bridge connecting the natural with the man made, an interruption of the edge.
